Re: is walmart ammo good?
Is it Walmart brand ammo?
|
Re: is walmart ammo good?
The ammo is fine, you may not like them entering your drivers lic # into their computer system though.

Re: is walmart ammo good?
? Never had them do that to me...
Anyway with walmarts increased prices, wait for sales at places like Dicks, Gander, Academy or even Cabelas. Bass proshops has some insane antigun polices so I don't shop there. Buying a gun or ammo from a store that prohibits them... All I have to say about that is WTF? |
Re: is walmart ammo good?
I use the Winchester White Box 9mm and Remington 9mm FMJ in my XD. Never any problems with their ammo. Plus, no ID requested.

Re: is walmart ammo good?
I use that Winchester ammo as well, in .38 Special and .45ACP. Never had any trouble with it. It has increased in price considerably, though. It used to be about $24, and the last I bought was $30. I did just buy some Remington JHP ammo, and it was .38+P...same price as the Winchester (the .45 JHP was a few dollars more, we'll see if it's worth it). Haven't fired any of it, yet.
All they ever ask me is, "Is this for a handgun?" Don't know why they collect that info? |

Re: is walmart ammo good?
Walmart is great for ammo. The Federal 22 bulk packs and 45acp bulk packs (Winchester). I picked up 3 (100) packs of 45acp the other day for less than $90 + sales tax.
I know that seems expensive compared to last year, but it's one of the best prices you can find now days. The 22lr 550 round bulk packs are just under $12 so I recently picked up over 6000 rounds. Shoots like a dream out of both my Ruger 22/45's and my Ruger 10/22's. |

That's incorrect. You must live in a state like Ohio or someplace else. Out west here, we buy ALL the ammo we want and no one wants ANY ID AT ALL. So sorry bud, but that is not true on a Federal Statute level. |
Re: is walmart ammo good?
I buy the Federal 550 .22LR there monthly. Went from $9.95/box to $11.95/box in the last year. Still a decent deal, though.

I buy .45 ACP Winchester 100 round boxes for $30 at walmart too, and they've never asked for an ID.

Re: is walmart ammo good?
The last time I was at Walmart the clerk went to type my drivers lic # into his computer for a federal bulk pack. I took my ID and left.

Re: is walmart ammo good?
I buy most of my good 9mm ammo at Walmart.
I got a great deal at Academy the other day. Open box special the guy tells me. 50% off a 250, well 249 one missing, rnd box of .45 acp remington UMC, $28 bucks. I didn't think about that one very long. They have/had 7.62x39 and .223 by the 500 rnd box for $89 last time I checked. |

I like the 100 bulk pack from winchester in 45acp for just under $30. Yesterday I saw they had remington UMC 250 round 45acp bulk packs. They are a couple pennies more per round than the winchester, but I bought one to try out. |
Re: is walmart ammo good?
Here in AZ the clerk looked at my ID but didn'tpunch itin. when I asked, he said he had to check i was 21 (old fart wellover 21)

Re: is walmart ammo good?
Yeah, when we were kids the numbers weren't so scary although stuff was expensive just the same. I remember someone asking my father about his rifle and he said "I don't shoot it much. Every time I pull the trigger it costs a quarter!" That rifle would cost about $5 a shot now.

Re: is walmart ammo good?
You folks MUST be under forty.
I'm 55. NEVER HAD ANYONE ask me for my ID. As I pay cash, I tell them, "Uh, I left my wallet at home. Shhh, don't tell anyone, because I drove here. But I only live about 1/2 a mile away". If that's not good enough, I tell them, that's kewl, I'll shop at one of your competitors down the street. And they ARE just down the street. That pretty much resolves any issues. But again, I'm 55 and no longer suffer fools lightly. |

Re: is walmart ammo good?
Never had a problem at ChinaMart. I usually end up buying ammo at 3am and nobody ever says anything about checking ID. This must be "state specific". I also never had any problem with the Winchester (white box or silver box) ammo, though I have heard some complain. Today I bought (9mm) 200 rnds 115 grain PMC fmj and 20 rnds 135 grain Federal Hydra shok hp ammo at local gun shops. Gonna slay some paper targets later.
